The Council for Continuing Pharmaceutical Education (CCPE)
Corporate Profile
Our mission:
To be the provision of an educational program to establish improved professional standards within the Canadian biopharmaceutical community, to better meet the needs and expectations of our internal and external stakeholders in the healthcare industry.
Corporate Profile:
The CCPE is a non-profit organization, established to develop and administer an educational program in the health sciences. In 1969, members of what is now known as Rx&D and l’Association des Fabricants Québécois de Produits Pharmaceutiques recognized the necessity to create an education council that would develop a learning program to provide basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology for all body systems and an introduction to pharmacology and the various pharmaceutical treatments. The first standard was created for what we know now as the Pharmaceutical Professional. Since then the Council for Continuing Pharmaceutical Education has delivered nearly 40,000 distance learning courses to members of the pharmaceutical community, including 15,000 accreditation recognitions.
A self-regulated sector like the pharmaceutical community needs credible, rigorous and objective bodies to ensure a balanced approach in its various sectors of activities. Ensuring the setting, assessment and maintenance of appropriate professional standards is essential. CCPE is one of these bodies and its maintenance is critical to maintain a favourable perception of our industry sector.
Operating on a cooperative model, CCPE depends on 36 biopharmaceutical members to provide a partial financial support to CCPE operating budget in the beginning of each year. This contribution allows the maintenance of existing curriculum and enables the development of new programs that are relevant to a majority of members. In return, members are entitled to benefit from a long list of privileges. Namely, redundancy in education content development can be avoided by an optimal use of CCPE resources.
CCPE’s direction is established by a Board of Directors. Directors are elected individuals from the pharmaceutical community that have the responsibility to represent the entire membership. The Board of Directors is the governing body of the Corporation and is comprised of fourteen (14) persons representing member companies nominated to the Board as follows:
- One (1) person nominated by the Canada’s Research-Base
Pharmaceutical Community (Rx&D) Board of Directors.
- Up to eight (8) individuals elected within personnel of Rx&D members that can best represents CCPE stakeholders and, generate a useful contribution to CCPE priorities.
- Five (5) CCPE Accredited Representatives, elected every two years.
CCPE applies adult learning principles in every step of program development and design of the learning experience. It namely became accredited by SOFEDUC to deliver CEU credits. CCPE is the largest distributor of accredited distance education programs in the Canadian biopharmaceutical community.
