Astellas Pharma Canada, Inc. inherited its existence and
spirit from Fujisawa Canada, Inc. (on April 1, 2005, Fujisawa
Pharmaceutical Co.,Ltd. and Yamanouchi Pharmaceutical Co.,
Ltd. merged to form Astellas Pharma Inc.). Fujisawa was established
as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Fujisawa's US operation in
1991 through the purchase of Lyphomed Canada. In 1998, Fujisawa
Canada was re-established as a proprietary pharmaceutical
company when Fujisawa divested its North American generic
injectable business.
With its headquarters located in Markham,
Ontario, Astellas Pharma Canada, Inc. is a comprehensive pharmaceutical
enterprise involved in clinical research and development as
well as pharmaceutical sales and marketing. Astellas Pharma
Canada, Inc., has over 55 full time employees.
Astellas Pharma Canada, Inc. is the only Japanese pharmaceutical
company operating in Canada and an active member of Canada's
Research-Based Pharmaceutical Companies (Rx&D).
