Actelion Pharmaceutiques Canada
Corporate Profile
Actelion is committed to biopharmaceutical research, and
its innovative approach has placed Actelion among the world
leaders in endothelial research. Actelion Ltd. was founded
in 1997 and has grown rapidly from its origin in Allschwil
(Basel), Switzerland to become a global biopharmaceutical
company with a team of more than 300 pharmaceutical professionals
in affiliate companies in Austria, Canada, China, France,
Germany, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States.
In early 2001, Actelion opened its offices in Laval, Quebec,
Canada and currently employs 26 people.
Actelion continues to focus its research on the endothelium
and is a pioneer in this very promising and highly specialized
field. Actelion is now combining the scientific knowledge
gained from the endothelium with the focus on small molecules
in projects areas such as cardiology, neurology and oncology.
Actelion is involved in the 'post-genomic' field through
its collaboration with Axovan Ltd. The aim is to discover
novel targets.
Actelion Canada has launched in December 2001 the first oral
endothelin receptor antagonist, for the treatment of pulmonary
arterial hypertension. Actelion has another endothelin receptor
antagonist in i.v. form in phase III for the treatment of
acute heart failure.
