Code of Conduct - Question & Answers

7a. Gifts - June 2005

Question 1
Are pharmaceutical manufacturers allowed to give physicians Palm Pilots/PDAs? I understand your organization has guidelines around gifts and was wondering if this is allowed.
I am a pharmacist, and a physician has asked to me inquire about this issue.
My understanding is that this practice meets your guidelines.

Response
According to the Rx&D Code of Conduct, section 7A. Particularly Section 7A.1.2 Member companies must not offer to any healthcare professional, or to any member of a healthcare professional's clinical/administrative staff, any gift in cash or in kind, or any promotional aid, prize, reward, or any other item any of which is intended for personal/family benefit, or pecuniary advantage.
