Healthier Canadians

  • Our focus is on patients. Our people create the medicines and vaccines that improve and save lives.

  • It's about making life better for all Canadians. Medicines and vaccines developed by Rx&D member companies have significantly reduced hospitalizations and surgeries.

  • Medicines and vaccines have been a contributing factor in helping Canadians live longer, healthier and more productive lives. Average life expectancy for Canadian men and women combined increased from 60 years of age in 1922 to 80 years of age in 2003.

  • Advances in medicine are not the only factor of course; but have greatly contributed to improved quality of life and survival rates in many disease categories. Some examples:

    • 70% decrease in death rates because of HIV/AIDS **
    • 63% decrease in death rates from heart attacks*
    • 71% decrease in death rates from bronchitis, asthma and emphysema*
    • 45% decrease in death rates from chronic liver disease*

**1993-2000
* 1980-2000
